Broadstairs

About 80 miles (130 km) east of London, Broadstairs is an Isle of Thanet town that is coastal in east Kent's Thanet district. With a population in 2011 of about 25,000, it is part of the St Peter's and Broadstairs parish, which includes St Peter's. One of Thanet's seaside areas, known as the "jewel in Thanet's crown", Broadstairs is between Margate and Ramsgate.

The endowment on Broadstairs, six acres (24,000 m²) of ground for the poor of the parish was of his legacies. Although there is no written evidence of this, Broadstairs was the first town in England to learn of this victory. With firms operated by John Derby and William Sackett, such as Bradstowe Coachmasters, involved, rail access to Broadstairs had relied heavily upon coach links to other railway stations in the district or region.

Coxswain of Mary White, Solomon Holbourn of Broadstairs had Sophia, an aunt, who, in 1813, at Folkestone married William Stevenson. Becoming a boatman and mariner, their eldest son, William, at St Peter's, Broadstairs married Elizabeth Wellard in 1839.

In 1897, the "Frances Forbes Barton" was the legacy of a Miss Webster to the boatmen of Broadstairs. When it was moved to the Walmer station when the station closed, it is recorded as having remained at that station until 1912. At Pyson's Roa is the largest of industrial estates.

An important industry in the area was Smuggling, and the men of Broadstairs and St Peter's became good at outwitting customs agents. It was not served by the railways until 1863, although to other seaside towns of Thanet and to Broadstairs, holidaymakers were attracted during the Victorian era.

Elected every four years, by the mayor, Broadstairs and St Peter's Town Council has 15 members. At St. Peter's Recreation Ground, Thanet Wanderers Rugby Union Football Club is in Broadstairs. The one paid-for media that Broadstairs has is the Isle of Thanet Gazette.
